Diversity Day
Mon 09 Feb 2026We have been exploring the theme of diversity. In our PSHE lessons, we developed a deep understanding of what diversity means and why it is so important to celebrate our differences.
Last week, we listened to the story The Forest of Many Challenges during assembly, which helped us understand how valuable diversity is. To conclude the week, we held a Diversity Day where pupils were invited to wear clothing or bring in items that represented their heritage, culture, hobbies, or interests. We spent time sharing these with one another and celebrating the many ways that make us unique.
Well done to all the pupils for truly ‘living life in all its fullness’ by sharing what makes them special and by listening to and learning from others. A huge thank you, as always, to our parents and carers for their support in making this day such a success.

Diversity Day
Fri 07 Feb 2025We have been learning about DIVERSITY. Last week, we listened to the story of ‘The Box of Crayons’ during assembly and learnt how great diversity is. The story helped us to understand that although we may have some similarities, we also have some differences and together we make the world an amazing place. We ended the assembly with a beautiful poem to remind us that 'Being Different is Good' written by one of our Year 3 pupils.
Through PSHE lessons, we looked deeper into the meaning of diversity and the importance of celebrating differences. To end the week, we celebrated our similarities and differences on our Diversity Day. We were invited into school wearing clothing or bringing items in that represented our heritage, culture, hobbies and interests. We spent time sharing these with our peers and celebrated the many ways in which we are different.
Well done to all of the pupils for ‘living life in all its fullness’ by sharing what makes them special and listening to and learning from others. As always, a huge thank you to the parents and carers for their support in making this day a success.
Being Different is Good
If you’re different don’t be sad,
If you’re different, be glad,
You should always try to be you,
Let your light shine through.
Have good people all around,
Don’t let yourself fall to the ground,
You should always try to be you,
Let your light shine through.
Don’t be mean, try to be kind,
There’s nothing about you that you need to hide,
You should always try to be you,
Let your light shine through.
If you’re different don’t be sad,
If you’re different, be glad,
You should always try to be you,
Let your light shine through.

Bedworth, 'A Singing Town' - Year 4
Wed 11 Dec 2024Year 4 had an inspiring visit from Jeremy Dibb, a representative of the 'Bedworth, A Singing Town' project. This wonderful initiative seeks to ignite a passion for singing in children across local schools. Jeremy worked closely with the students, leading engaging sessions that encouraged them to explore their voices and experience the joy of music. The children were captivated by his enthusiasm and left the sessions with smiles on their faces and songs in their hearts!

Letter to the Prime Minister
Wed 11 Dec 2024Year 4 students have been learning about plastic pollution and its devastating impact on the environment. Inspired to make a difference, they wrote heartfelt letters to the Prime Minister, expressing their concerns and urging action. Today, the year group was thrilled to receive a response! The letter acknowledged their efforts, showing them that their voices matter. This special moment has inspired the children to continue advocating for change, proving that even young voices can spark meaningful dialogue.

Wed 16 Oct 2024Severn Trent came into school to teach children about how water is cleaned and recycled. Children were surprised to see how many items get flushed down into the pipes! We participated in workshops with Siobhan to attempt to clean some water samples that were ridden with non-biodegradable items - take a look at the fun they had.

Diversity Day 2024
Fri 09 Feb 2024Following our PSHE Unit ‘Celebrating Differences,’ we had a day to celebrate how diverse we are at The Canons. We listened to an assembly which reminded us that we live in a world full of differences and how great that is, followed by a day wearing clothing or bringing items in that represented our heritage, culture, hobbies and interests. We spent time sharing these with our peers and celebrated the many ways in which we are different.
Well done to all of the pupils for ‘living life in all it’s fullness’ by sharing what makes them, them and listening to and learning from others. A huge thank you to the parents/carers too for their support in making this day a success.
Here are some of our thoughts about Diversity Day:
‘Diversity Day made us feel that we are all amazing! We did a fashion show to music and took some photos,’ Reception
‘Diversity Day made me feel happy because I got to wear different clothes,’ Year 1
‘Diversity means that we are different and we have something special about ourselves. We liked talking about what makes us happy and different,’ Year 2
‘We know that we are all different and not just because we look different. We are all different, but can all be friends at the same time,’ Year 3
‘I enjoyed Diversity Day because we were able to celebrate things that we might not normally tell people or what people might not know. We all felt included,’ Year 4
‘I wore two different shoes to show that everyone is different,’ Year 4
‘I enjoyed dressing up and talking about us. I understand others a bit more now,’ Year 5

Celebrating Diversity
Tue 29 Nov 2022Following last year's successful celebration of diversity, last week we had another chance to celebrate diversity at The Canons. We had an assembly to remind us what is meant by ‘diversity’ and discussed why it is important to celebrate our differences. On Friday, we celebrated the diversity in our school by wearing something or bringing something in that represented ourselves or our families.
Some of us:
- Wore clothing traditional of our culture/faith/nationality
- Wore clothing to represent a skill/talent we practice such as karate, dancing, gymnastics football, rugby, swimming, fishing…
- Wore clothing to represent a club that we belong to such as Rainbows, Football, Rugby…
- Brought in photos of our family
- Brought in food from their culture to share with the class
- Brought in items, photos or wore clothing to represent festivals we celebrate
- Brought in medals, certificates, trophies and even a horse to represent the skills and hobbies we practice
- Taught our classmates how to say some phrases or write some letters in our home language
We enjoyed sharing these with each other and celebrating the many ways in which we are different.
Well done to all the pupils for making our day to ‘celebrate how diverse we are' a success this year too, and as always, a huge thank you to parents and carers who supported the children in understanding and celebrating what makes them special!
