Dottie Our Therapy Dog
Dottie is a (soon to be) 7-year-old (14.11.2024) 'shoodle' or 'shipoo' (Shi tzu toy poodle cross) dog who lives at home with Mrs Smith and her family which includes an 18-month-old Cavapoochon ( Cava poo cross Bichon) dog called Penny and 3 bantam hens called Cybil, Marigold and Gracie.
Dottie has been a registered Pets as Therapy (PAT) dog since September 2018 and worked in school on a daily basis ever since.
Pets As Therapy (PAT) is a national charity that enhances the health and wellbeing of thousands of people in communities across the UK. They strive to ensure that everyone, no matter their circumstances, has access to the companionship of an animal. Volunteers and their temperament-assessed pets visit establishments such as care homes, hospitals, hospices, schools and prisons, and bring smiles to many faces. People of all ages get the chance to chat to someone — and stroke a friendly dog or cat.
In school Dottie is able to offer emotional wellbeing support to pupils and staff as and when they require it and she can often be found snuggled in Mrs Smith's office or walking around school checking in with everyone. Dottie loves a friendly chat, stroke or high five from any one who comes to see her and likes showing off her tricks of 'roll over' or how she dances too.
Dottie loves treats and can often be found sitting patiently at certain staff member's office doors waiting to receive them or at pupil's feet after they have enjoyed a visit.
