Always be careful when you are using the Internet. It can help you to keep in touch with your friends and help your education – but it can also cause harm to you and to others.

Remember, help is always available at school if you are having any problems online.

Don’t be afraid to talk to your teacher or another adult at school.

Every year at the Canons, we select a group of thoughtful children to become our Internet Safety Committee. Together, we produce videos which we then share across the school in order to raise important, topical digital issues for discussion in class.

During our Online Safety assembly, pupils in KS1 discussed some rules that they should follow to keep themselves safe when using the Internet. They listened to a story about a child who needed their help to guide them to keep safe in different scenarios. They did such a great job and offered sensible advice. Following the assembly, children were tasked with creating a poster with some top tips on how to stay safe online. Take a look at some of their posters above.

Tips for staying safe online:

• Make sure you keep new online friends strictly online. If someone you don't know asks to be your online friend you must ensure an adult knows about it.
•  Know how to use the CEOP Button and how to report it to the CEOP Centre if you are concerned about someone’s online behaviour towards you.
